Agnostic Crystals & American Kintsugi

A

San Francisco may be the bipping capital of the world (#IYKYK). It’s something of a rite of passage for many moving to the city, or visiting for the first time.

Over the summer in 2023 I started collecting shattered window glass from car break-ins in Golden Gate Park (nearly 40 POUNDS, in fact). The SF “snow” I saw on our daily walks got me thinking a lot about this city I love and live in, behavioral psychology, and TRUST – The trust we have in cars and their fragile windows to keep our bodies and belongings safe; Trust in people and society that a solid yet transparent sheet of material is enough of a protective boundary; And then what happens after, when the illusion is shattered.

With this new medium, I’ve meditated on two collections so far: “Agnostic Crystals” and “American Kintsugi”. Samples below! When I’m not feeling lazy or terrified about social media, I occasionally post updates on IG @bumvivant.

We all put trust in something – consciously or unconsciously. Where do you put yours?
